The Illustrated Man is a well-established tattoo studio located on the southside of Indianapolis in Homecroft.
Our Vision
We strive to provide quality tattooing, piercings, and esthetic services at a fair price in a family-friendly environment that fosters artist growth while maintaining an active and positive presence and participation in the community.
At The Illustrated Man, we provide professional and experienced tattoo services, piercing services, and esthetic services including facials and waxing. We also take on commissioned projects such as paintings, murals, and graphic designs and logos.
We love participating in community outreach and charity events, so please feel free to contact us if you have an event that you believe we can help with!
What’s With the Name Though?
Published in 1951, "The Illustrated Man" is a collection of 18 short stories by Ray Bradbury, framed by the tale of a man whose magical tattoos come to life, each representing a different story that explores themes of technology, humanity, and the future. Similarly to tattoos and body modification in most all forms, these stories dive into the complexities of the human experience. The Illustrated Man was chosen the chosen name, as it reminds us of the time we need to reflect on our own lives and the choices that shape them.

Co-owner and manager of The Illustrated Man. Chrissy has been tattooing for over 10 years and is familiar with a variety of styles. A self-taught artist, Chrissy does prefer blackwork, illustrative, and American traditional style tattoos. Custom designs are her forte, but anything she’s asked to tattoo she’s happy to do. She has become known for her specialization in fine line designs as well. Chrissy also does commissioned paintings, murals, and advertising products. She shares two girls with Donavan, and in her spare time enjoys spending time with her family, fishing, and outdoor activities. She’s usually at the shop, so come in and say hi!

Madison is your go-to gal for all things beauty and bold. Whether you’re looking for a fresh piercing, a smooth wax, or a rejuvenating facial to bring out your natural glow, she’s here to help elevate your look with confidence and care. With six years of medical experience as a dialysis technician and a professional education from Tricoci University of Beauty Culture where she earned her license in Esthetics. Madison blends clinical precision with creative passion. Her approach is both skilled and soulful. A fun-loving spirit with a flair for the alternative and a love for all things creepy, Madison brings unique energy to every service she provides. When you’re ready for a total look reset or just a little something to boost your vibe, stop by the shop and let Madison work her magic. She has a sharp eye for detail and a passion for helping you feel your best.

With over 30 years of tattooing experience, Jay is a seasoned artist known for his versatility, creativity, and mastery across a wide range of styles. From intricate realism to bold traditional work--and especially his signature freehand design--he brings a level of skill and intuition that allows him to translate any client’s vision into a beautifully crafted piece of art. Well recognized throughout Indianapolis, he has earned a strong reputation for his professionalism, artistry, and ability to make every client feel understood and valued. When he’s not in the studio, you’ll find him enjoying time with his awesome mom and his beloved dogs, grounding his life and art in the things that matter most.

Co-owner and manager of The Illustrated Man. Donavan has been collecting tattoos for decades and is very familiar with the business structure as well as tattooing and piercing procedures. Though not a tattooist himself, Donavan is a free-lance graphic designer, specializing in embroidered logo designs as well as graphic art. He has been drawing and designing custom images for over 5 years, many of which have been selected to be embroidered on fitted hats. He also specializes in custom stickers, pins, clothing designs, and patches as well. Donavan is also primarily responsible for the shop’s social media and any major decisions regarding events at the shop. A family man by nature, Donavan has two young girls he shares with Chrissy, who may often be found around the shop as well. In his spare time, Donavan enjoys drawing clever concepts, spending time with his family, and making smart-ass remarks.
